Challenges with outsourcing to India

India is a global leader in outsourcing, offering a vast talent pool and competitive rates. However, it's not a one-size-fits-all solution. Yes, we know, you’ve heard one too many!

Well, it is a country, just like any other, with all possible businesses and best-in-class talents. There’s plenty of really smart Indian workforce. They just don’t work for pennies like on the contracts you see when people usually outsource. This is the key reason why you hear outsourcing horror stories.

Communication and Cultural Differences:

Work Styles:

Direct communication styles preferred in the West might be perceived as harsh in India.

Family Influence:

Believe it or not, families play a significant role in any kind of decision-making, potentially affecting productivity

Language Barriers:

Accents, idioms, and cultural references can lead to misunderstandings.

Time Zones:

A 4.5 – 12.5 hour time difference can make real-time collaboration difficult.

Communication and Cultural Differences:

It’s all about processes. To get the best out of any team, ensure that you create very clear SOP’s and processes and have governance to ensure their adherence.

Project Management:

Ensuring clear expectations and managing remote teams requires effective processes.

Quality Assurance:

Different quality standards may exist. Rigorous vetting and ongoing monitoring are crucial.

Intellectual Property (IP) Protection:

Solid contracts and data security measures are essential.

Ongoing Training:

For repetitive tasks, ongoing training is essential to ensure the finer details are not missed out.

Other Considerations:

Infrastructure Realities:

Power outages and internet disruptions can occur.

Legal and Regulatory Environment:

Understanding Indian regulations and compliance requirements is key.

Hidden Costs:

Factor in training, communication tools, and potential travel for oversight.

Like we said, these challenges are usually a concern when you outsource with companies that offer pricing that is too good to be true.

What you need to remember is humans work the same way GLOBALLY! They have commitments, bills to pay, have a standard of life. So if you are looking at upto 60% cost savings, it’s realistic. Any company claiming to save above that could be substandard.

If you are looking at cream-quality talent, do not expect more than 45% savings when outsourcing to India.
